Joe and Michele's & Mi Gitana's Theme Song
Joe and I made the below song, Barometer Soup, as one of our wedding songs played after our vows were exchanged on the day we got married aboard our boat, Mi Gitana in 1998. Having the words memorized we also are known to sing it at the top of our lungs (accompanying Jimmy Buffet, of course, on the stereo speakers out on the deck) while sailing on many a sunny day off the San Diego shoreline.  It was also the perfect song to choose for our break-away song(*) on the day of our departure from San Diego, breaking away from life as we once knew it... and to be our boat's cruising song.  It reflects our sailing philosophy ("lets have some fun... in a simple sturdy craft...going places that only dreamers see...going fast enough to get there, but slow enough to see...lusting for the future, but treasuring our past")... and the line, "the hard work has all been done" was certainly an understatement of what we felt the day we finally left San Diego in our sturdy (but far from "simple") craft.
(*) A "Break-Away" song is traditionally a song chosen by the Captain of a Navy ship to play loudly on the ships Public Address speakers after unloading cargo or supplies or fuel from another ship along side when they "Break Away" from the other ship.  That song usually becomes that ship's theme song.   [To read about our "Break Away" day -- The day we departed on our voyage, click here: December 30, 2001
Barometer Soup
(from Album of Same Name by Jimmy Buffet, 1987)
Follow in my wake ...You've not that much at stake... For I have plowed the seas... And smoothed the troubled waters.
Come along let's have some fun! The hard work has been done. We'll barrel roll into the sun... Just for starters.
Just for starters, Barometer's my soup.
I'm descended, from a deck-hand on a sloop.
I travel on the song-lines... That only dreamers see-- Not known for predictability.
Come and follow in our wake. You've not that much at stake. For we have plowed the seas and smoothed the troubled waters.
Come along let's have some fun... Seems our work is done. We'll barrel roll into the sun, Just for starters.
Sail the main course... In a simple sturdy craft.
Keep her well stocked... With short stories and long laughs.
Go fast enough to get there, But slow enough to see. Moderation seems to be the key.
Constantly searchin' ...Oh my eyes have seen some horizons...
And I've crossed the ocean for more than just thrills...
No, I'm not the first-- Won't be the last.
You lust for the future, but treasure the past .
Follow in my wake ...You've not as much at stake... For I have plowed the seas... And smoothed the troubled waters.
Come along let's have some fun ...The hard work has been done ...We'll barrel roll into the sun,  Just for starters...
We'll barrel roll into the sun,  Just for starters.
We'll barrel roll into the sun Just for starters
